Event Details

The Watershed Agricultural Council, Green Chimneys and Clearpool Education Center are hosting a composting workshop for Institutions, Municipalities, and Farms on Monday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Clearpool Education Center, Carmel, NY.  

This is a great opportunity for facilities managers, municipal managers, food service managers and other professionals from schools, hospitals, offices, towns, farms, museums, clubs and other institutions with food service and grounds to maintain, to learn more about waste managment techniques that will create a valuable soil building product from food, garden and agricultural waste and reduce dependance on waste haulage and containment.

Speakers will include representatives from:

- Cornell Waste Management Institute

- SUNY-Cobleskill

- Culinary Institute of America

- The NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation

The cost for the all day workshop is $25 and includes and buffet lunch and any materials.

Driving Directions:

From NYC via Taconic Pkwy:  FDR Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) North to Saw Mill River Parkway North to Taconic Parkway North.  Exit Peekskill Hollow Road and turn right.  Follow Peekskill Hollow Road East to the end, turning right onto Route 301 East.  Follow for one mile and take the first left onto East Boyds Road.  Enter the second driveway on right (look for Clearpool sign) and proceed up the hill.

From Pennsylvania:  I-80 East to I-81 North to I-84 East to the Taconic Parkway South, exiting at Carmel/Route 301 East.  Follow Route 301 East for 4-5 miles.  Continue approximately one mile and take first left onto East Boyds Road. Enter at the second driveway on right (look for Clearpool sign) and proceed up the hill.  

From Western NY:  Route 17 to South to I-84 East. to the Taconic Parkway South, exiting at Carmel/Route 301 East.  Follow Route 301 East for 4-5 miles.  Continue approximately one mile and take first left onto East Boyds Road. Enter the second driveway on right (look for Clearpool sign) and proceed up the hill. 

From Dutchess County: Route 9 South to I-84 East to the Taconic Parkway South, exiting at Carmel/Route 301 East.  Follow Route 301 East for 4-5 miles.  Continue approximately one mile and take first left onto East Boyds Road. Enter the second driveway on right (look for Clearpool sign) and proceed up the hill. 

From Connecticut, Rhode Island, or Massachusetts:  Take 84 West to New York, Exit 19 (Carmel/ Route 312) in New York State.  Turn Right off exit onto Route 312 and follow to the end.  Turn Right onto Route 6 and follow road to the end.  At the light make a Right onto Route 52 and proceed one block to traffic light (Route 301).  Turn Left at the light onto (towards Cold Springs) Route 301 West and follow for approximately 3.4 miles.  Turn Right onto East Boyds Road.  Enter the second driveway on right (look for Clearpool sign) and proceed up the hill.
